DIY WIND TURBINE

This project is probably simpler than the diy solar water heater, but is probably just as thrilling to make. So- the first project will be a wind turbine… just a basic  wind turbine which doesnt generate electricity but measures the wind speed & direction.

Materials: ruler/a piece of wood about 1 cm x 5cm X 30cm , 1 long pole, dowel ,2 bearings(sized to the dowel dia.), glue, pipe (of the outside dia. of bearing so it fits in there) or scraps of wood (all sorts of them)

Equipment: chisel, drill, knife, sandpaper,

Tips: You could varnish the wood so they dont swell in the rain or you might just bring it inside. A good idea is to sand paper the pipe before gluing it to the poleso it will stick better.

Procedure:

step1. fix the bearing in the pipe, preferrably another bearing in the other end too (fix the dowel in the bearing before doing that ( it will make things much easier =)

step 2. Carve the blade out of the piece of wood and then sandpaper it. Drill a hole in the center.

step3. Fix the blades onto the dowel, and stick the pipe to the pole.

step4. a tail can be made out of a cd.just stick it on the end of the pipe and itshould work

So, dont you think it was easy? Our apologies that we didn’t include photos ( i guess tht it could have made things much easier =)
